Hard to realise just how extreme US capitalism is…

Current parade performer here, I can speak on it. We need union representation for fair compensation, health/safety and job security. Most of the parade department are professional dancers. Stage dancers at Disneyland make 10 dollars more an hour than the parade department even though parades are objectively more physically taxing on the body and we’re working in worse conditions. Even though Disney won’t acknowledge parade performers as dancers, that’s what we are. We’re performing a craft in which we have years of training, experience and expertise so we should be paid accordingly. Not just anyone can do what we do. The resort recently cut our hours without warning. This isn’t the first time parades were cut in order to cut costs either, Disney is constantly cutting down the parade budget any time they need to save a little money. They have also strategically set up our department so that no one can ever become full time. I’m there six days a week and have been for 2 years… still “casual regular.” People who have been in this department consistently for 15+ years are still… “casual regular.” This means that nobody in the parade department is ever eligible for benefits such as health insurance or anything. We pretty much all have second or third jobs and still can’t make ends meet and people are living in their cars because they can’t afford rent. Injuries are at an all time high in parades. Torn ligaments, permanent nerve damage, overuse injuries, neck & back injuries, etc are all things that people in our department are dealing with. Not to mention heat exhaustion and infections from dirty improperly cleaned costumes. We don’t even always have access to athletic trainers like we’re supposed to. We had several rehearsals this year that no trainers were present at. There are very little precautionary and preventative measures taken to ensure the safety of the performers. We do not currently have access to an indoor break space for between parades so we’re baking in the sun even when not performing. We haven’t had access to hydration sqwinchers in a year. They have also recently exponentially shortened our recovery time between parades making it difficult to be fully rested and prepared for the next show. I COULD SAY MUCH MUCH MORE We do this job because we love it. It is so unbelievably rewarding to the soul. Consistent dance jobs are also hard to come by since most shows or productions only last a few months, weeks or even days. Just because we love our job when we’re performing does not mean that we should put up with poor and unfair treatment by a corporation who has seemingly endless amounts of money.

Uber continuously engages in deceptive practices. The fares on UberBlack have skyrocketed. Killing off business for many black drivers in Los Angeles. The customers we’ve lost on black are now ordering on Uber comfort and UberX. This falls right into Ubers hands because they can take up to 70% of the fares on UberX. The lack of premium rides forces drivers with premium cars to operate on lower tier rides like Uber X.

What's also interesting is that Walmart and McDonald's are also typically the highest wages in their fields. Other retail and fast food companies pay worse! Some are still paying minimum wage below $8 an hour! Walmart and McD's typically start at twice that.
